Wills & Estates

Do you have a Will? Is your current Will up-to-date?
If the answer is no, we can help.

Planning your Will and estate isn’t the hassle you think it is. We can help you to keep it simple so everything is in order before you go.

What is a Will?

A Will is a legal document that says how you want your assets to be distributed when you die. Other areas that a Will can cover are organ donation and whether or not you want to be buried or cremated.

Why do I need a Will?

Having a will ensures that when you die, your assets will go where you want them to. If you don’t have a will they’ll be distributed following a formula that’s set out in the Succession Act 2006. And that distribution may not be what you had in mind.

Protect your family

If your situation is more complex or has recently changed, it’s even more important your affairs are in order. Some examples are if you’re in a same sex relationship, you’re separated from your partner or have children from a previous relationship. In these cases it can be complicated and painful for your family to settle, so it’s vital to ensure they’re protected if you’re no longer around.

How we can help with your Will or Estate Planning

You might groan at the thought of planning your Estate or Trust, especially if you’re still young. But with our help it won’t be the headache you’re imagining.

Some of the things we cover are:

  • Appointments of Enduring Guardian – decisions about your health care and where you live
  • Effects of Joint Tenancy upon your Will & Estate
  • Superannuation – it is better to have a binding nomination renewed every 3 years with defined beneficiaries or not, and how this effects your will
  • Trusts and Business Entities – will they survive your death and the effect upon your will as they are not your personal estate

We can also help you with:

  • Deceased estates
  • Inheritance disputes or contests concerning wills
